Employment Visas

Several visa options are available to meet the needs of Australian employers. These visas allow employers to recruit and employ skilled people from overseas, to fill position that they are unable to fill from the local Australian labour market

The Employer Nomination Scheme and the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme both provide a pathway for permanent migration to Australia. These visas are for skilled people who are under 45 years of age. However, applicants over 50 may be considered in specific occupations.

The Temporary Business (Long Stay) 457 visa, is a temporary visa, which allows employment in Australia for periods from 1 month up to 4 years. It is probably the most common visa used to employ skilled overseas workers in Australia.

All of these employment visas require that an employer first has to demonstrate the need to employ a foreign employee and then receives approval from relevant authorities to recruit and nominate such an employee. The employee needs to be skilled and experienced in order to qualify and many other criteria also apply.
